Editorial Assistant & Reporter, TCU360
January 2013-August 2015
TCU360 is the digital-first news outlet of TCU's Bob Schieffer College of Communication. This consists of a 24/7 news website, weekly newspaper, annual magazine, and daily TV segments. My contributions amounted to more than 20 published articles, 4 newspaper covers, and 6 multimedia news packages. The faculty and student editors recognized me for my feature writing, information graphics, and career potential.
Most recently, I worked under Professional in Residence Steve Myers to publish a months-long journalistic investigation of high infant mortality rates in north Texas. I took on a position of lead writer and editorial assistant on this project involving 16 senior journalism students conducting more than 60 interviews with physicians, politicians, and grieving parents.
Intern, Center for Strategic and International Studies
On a daily basis, I distributed new foreign policy research via posting to social media, formatting newsletters, arranging media interviews, coordinating panel events, and writing press releases. On a weekly basis, I tracked social media analytics for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, and iTunesU and compiled these numbers into a weekly report.
Because of my skill with Adobe InDesign, the staff designated me as the first intern to partner the External Relations and Creative departments, with my responsibility being the formatting, ordering and corresponding for all CSIS business card requests.
Staff Reporter / Intern, Frogs for the Cure
In this role, I worked closely on TCU's Frogs for the Cure breast cancer awareness partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This involved writing news content for the organization's website, blogging, posting to social media, and recruiting 2,000 participants for a music video that gained 90,000+ YouTube views. I also assisted in planning and carrying out meetings of TCU's Chancellor's Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees.
This position taught me the importance of finding a workplace that aligns my talents and passions. I found passion in women's health and motivation in the personal stories of lives touched.
Staff Reporter, John V. Roach Honors College
After filling a 233-page journal on a three-week Honors study abroad trip in 2012, the administrators asked me to write news articles for the College's website. I highlighted accomplishments, events and happenings of the College.
